Aussie Champions Crowned in NKL Grand Final!

The Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League (NKL) Grand Final came to a close on the Gold Coast yesterday following a weekend of thrilling kiteboarding action at Narrowneck Beach.

With strong northerly winds on Saturday producing perfect competition conditions, the best of the best from across Australia battled it out for the title in both the Freestyle and Big Air categories.

At the close of competition, the 2017 Grand Final winners were:

Freestyle 1st: Kye Evans (Sunshine Coast, QLD) (pictured, second from right) 2nd: Jamie McCully (Gold Coast, QLD) (pictured, far right) 3rd: Jonathan Blanch (Sunshine Coast, QLD) (pictured, second from left) 4th: Emerson Johnston (WA) (pictured, far left)

Big Air 1st: Jesse Bruinsma (Netherlands/VIC)

President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said Saturday's conditions were some of the best seen during the national events series, providing spectators with plenty of action out on the water.

"We congratulate all the winners and participants on their achievements and for showcasing their talents to give us an outstanding Grand Final event," he said.

"Despite lighter wind conditions than expected on Sunday, the wind turned it up to ensure our participants had excellent weather conditions to work with on Saturday with the judges able to secure some solid results.

"It's been a great series and we look forward to seeing what talents we uncover in the future for the next season."

The NKL now sets it sights on the 2017/18 season, kicking off in November this year.
