Riders Loved Every Minute Of It: NKL Gold Coast

"The first NKL event was held on the GC this weekend, and it went down as one of the biggest things to happen in Australian kiteboarding, and kitesurfing history."
This weekend will be remembered as the first ever NKL Circuit stop, the one which started it all.

Riders from all over QLD competed in classic Gold Coast conditions with winds in the 15-20 knot range and waves up to 1.5m. Narrowneck, just north of Surfers Paradise was the event site, having hosted previous PKRA world tour stops and KiteJAM events, run by the same event organizer David De Whitt. Having run so many kiteboarding events in the past, David and his team put on a faultless show for both riders and spectators. No hitches, just lots of kiteboarding! Riders loved every minute of it, each sharing lots of stoke for the event in anticipation of what it might mean for Australian kiteboarding. "The NKL was a fantastic event" Explained Elliot Bradshaw, one of the riders. "It should have happened years ago, it was great! Good people, crowd and judging. Good event and good location!" Both freestyle and wave events were held over the weekend, with finals on Sunday in a howling South Easter that blew up. Riders threw loop after loop, with some cringe-worthy crashes pleasing the crowd in the Big Air Comp, which was held just before the Mens Freestyle finals in 30 knots! A full list of results are below, but if you're wondering where the top riders from New South Wales and Victoria are, a little explanation is needed! The NKL isn't your average kiteboarding tour, where riders from any location are invited to enter. The QLD stop on the circuit is just for Queenslanders, just like the Christchurch stop next week is for Kiwi's! After the circuit has passed through each major kiteboarding hub in Australia, the winners of the events will all come together, back on the Gold Coast for the biggest finale in Australian Kiteboarding history, the NKL Grand Final, in February 2016. Don't miss out on joining the competition when the NKL comes to a city near you! Riders of all skill levels are welcome to compete, with plenty of fun prizes and a no-pressure attitude.
