With Emirates Team New Zealand set to launch tomorrow, wondering if anyone else is as interested as I.
The cup cycle and all of the cloak and dagger is as facinaeting as the race series itself.
The AC75 boats look as though they may be able to bridge the gap between VMG and Tactics, however design and technology have always won the AC.
Hopefully we will not have to subscribe to a sports channel to watch this time around.

I'm interested but not if's not free to view!

i like the idea of the water walking boats but as was shown in the testing once they stuff it up it goes pear shaped incredibly fast or slooow if you're on board! It's because of that many commentators are calling it a train wreck.

As was shown in Cowes, 1 mistake and you're out of the race. You can look at that as ultra competitive or ultra boring.

Without the stability of a cat platform to save them from the occasional screw up, im betting on a lot of carnage. More carnage than we've seen previously.

Love the Americas cup as a kiwi as used to see them in the Rangitoto channel training at warp speed
The cats were great and I thought they would have been good to continue but then NZ would have lost its advantage and the GP50 evolved as a class.
I think the AC75 is too big and expensive so challenger numbers have dropped off. Its a rich mans game or in NZ case sponsors with tight funding and government support. Shame no Aussie team as all those years ago Australia 2 changed history in 1983.
The design concept was to have a trickle down to the rest of sailing and the D shaped mast with double skin mainsail may do that more than wing masts.
Without a doubt there will be other teams observing each other sailing

I can't wait. I think the boats will be awesome to watch. Don;t think it will translate into great racing. I think the GP50's are now the leader in speed vs racing.

Above all of those though i am super excited watching the IMOCA boats. Those things are mental.

No, that's the point! Nations against nations. Secrets around secrets. A boat that can win against the odds. It is the drama of the cup that makes it facinaeting.

I wish they had yacht races on land.

Just massive big cars with dozens of people onboard could even make them wind powered

Could use mining truck tires so trees etc just get crushed would open up alot more courses then just boreing old deserts

WTF. Do you not know that it was re-named after the yacht called America, which was the first boat to win it?

With covid putting a hold on the racing in Europe this year we now have the Americans here, see what they say.

Was at the SailGP in SYD in Feb, the foiling+winged cats are astonishing to watch in the flesh. Also saw the kiwi yacht foiling around in Oct last year, easily as impressive as the AC72s in SF. Going to be great to see the new boats pair up & race, not to mention the 4 big dogs on the wheels of each campaign, plenty of history and niggle between that group of blokes.

I am aiming to purchase a speedboat so I can go park up at the edge of the racecourse and watch. Me and a few mates planning on putting together a flotilla so we can enjoy the action and have a few beers.

I was out kiting with the NZ boat from last time just off Rangitoto and it was like being near an alien craft, absolutely amazing to witness

Technology has taken sailing to another level which is beyond most budgets. Whilst it's brilliant to watch they've as much practicality as formula one cars.

I'd enjoy going to watch F1 cars if we had a track in NZ too.

Not planning on buying either though so not sure why you'd point it out....

I'd wouldn't go watch Kia Sportage's race around a track, but they are very practical.

With out F1, MotoGP, sailGP and the like there would be less/no new development in sports to trickle through at a reasonable price to the many that have an average budget.

Awesome recovery!

The double sided mainsail is supposed to have more influence on wider sailing than the wings.

Stars and stripes may still race

Even though they're both on foils, there's something about monohull's that seems more fitting to America's cup to me. Look's freakin' awesome. I'll be watching.

The ability of the AC75 to maintain the mast at near perfect vertical at all points of sailing and through maneuvers amazes me. It just seems to be rock steady, how do they achieve this? Is there inherent stability in the foil design, or is somebody tasked with constantly adjusting something.

There are a bunch of rules in place for how much of the foiling controls can be computer controlled and what has to be manually done.
The advancements in foil control are impressive.
Good news is that it appears some of this data will be available in the telecast. Recent articles have mentioned $40 million (the largest single cost of the regatta) is being spent for broadcast and the likes of Red Bull tv producers bought in. Even better news is broadcast will be free and available online.

I always held the opinion that those energy drinks were stupid, but if an easily influenced and over caffeinated 20-something kid wants to fund my watching the America's Cup, maybe they're not such a bad thing.

Probably a team secret. I'd read somewhere that to get around the computer control regulations they had the computer calculate the trim adjustments and display a bouncing ball on a screen in front of one of the hydraulic pump cyclists. He'd use his spare hand (manual control) to follow the bouncing ball with a mouse.... which controlled the hydraulics. Maybe they've closed that loophole, maybe it was a leaked myth, but I can't imagine a fellow with a joystick and his eye on the horizon could keep it that steady?

Vitamin Bs not only "cure" a hangover the next day, they prevent one in the first place. Alcohol reduces Vitamin Bs, so simply stocking up on it before drinking...

I discovered this myself sort of by accident. I can attest i feel much better the next day if i have red bull the night before. Even good!. Starting out with a "vodka red bull" is actually a very smart move.

You can google it. Very well studied.

Vitamin Bs are also in the group of "fountain of youth" ...er, things. This is more controversial, but plausible.

I suppose it's like formula one car racing ten years ago . Traction control , anti lock brakes , engine power curve to match track layout , live , air foiling went nuts .
Thats when I stopped watching , it was like watching slot car acing .
It is slick stuff.

The first 5 minutes of this week's "Sailing world on water" has the NYYC entry over in NZ in 25 knots of breeze. Hard to tell how fast it's going, whether the video's speeded up or down, how to imagine it being 75 foot long. But it looks to be going. I'm thinking the Poms might take it out for the first time ever.
