Hi peeps
Can someone recommend best place around Asia to learn foiling in December please? Got a week's holiday and like to give this a go. Nice gentle wind with reasonably deep water..... Sri Lanka, Asia (Taiwan, Indo, Vietnam)?
I was in Mui Ne, Vietnam a couple of years ago kiting.
There were fish pots / floats, rubbish and one day I counted a hundred kiters
Don't think I would recommend there anyway.
Don't know if Thailand is a bit far away but if not might be worth a look. I only know Phuket well but I have seen plenty of videos of people learning at some of the other islands in the area.
Been to SriLanka - not a good spot for foiling. Most lagoons used for kitesurfing are too shallow and open sea too choppy for learning. Many Places in Asia charge world class fees for sub-standard gear and poor conditions.
I think you are better off learning in Australia - for the cost of ticket and few nights of accommodation you will get 3 two hour classes using top notch equipment, knowledgeable instructors speaking english, two way communication helmets, and world class conditions with sparkling clean warm water.
just pick your days - much better success on perfect foiling weather 14-16 knots, nice steady breeze on flat water.
Sanur in Bali is a good spot . Been there amny times .
Not nuking wind but the lagoon is huge , it is a bit tidal reliant but if you kite from Jankie and Kadeks kite school you cant go wrong . They are doing a lot of foiling there , Jankie has become a foil nut and showing a lot of fb posts on Bali Foilborders .
They do lessons with boats and you can have a fun surf at the reefs which line that part of Bali if the wind is out .
Not sure which gear they are using but am guessing its still Cabrinha , maybe axis
Sanur is cruisy and not packed with people . Lots of places to eat and enjoy for everyone

Been there too. Instructions were $100/hr and they were not that great (at least with the person I had). Took two towing behind the boat classes - had to argue as on both occasions they were meant to be one hour and were cut by by 10-15 min.
The wind is very weak most of the time - good for those already foiling, but not the best for learners (unless you weigh 50 kg as most locals). Tidal - can easily get stuck out and walk the sharp reef back, damage your lines/kite/feet. Need to pay to launch the kite from the beach - public space where you can do it at no cost yourself is at the very end of beach (your beachfront accommodation might be 2-4 km away). If you are learning, you will run into boats, buoys, and shallow spaces and need a boat rescue that you will be charged for.
Towing behind the boat did not help me much to do it on my own with a kite.
Sanur might be a good foiling spot if you are already a competent foiler. It i useless if you want to take some classes and the continue learning on your own ( Unless you are prepared to pay $100/hr for the boat and instructions at all times).

True with some of that but depends on your knowledge of the place . I've been there countless times and know it well and avoid most / all of the above . Took my foil this year in Aug and had a few sessions on the flat and waves.
There are probably at least 5 foils on the water at any time .
We go from Putus warung well away from what swavek describes . Thats where all the Euros hang out
I think the rates are cheaper too . They are a good mob , but don't know anything about foiling .
You are really best to learn at home .
cheers.
