Hi everyone,
I'd like to get into foiling and was wondering if anyone has experience with Crazyfly foils? I'm especially interested in the Shorty as it's really affordable compared to other foils.
I think they only sell complete foils though which is a bit of a downside in terms of upgrading to different masts or wings or also if something breaks. Anyway how does the foil compare to other beginner foils? I also considered the 2018 Axis Freeride foil and the Fone IC6 V2 but the Crazyfly is carbon fibre and still a lot cheaper.
Thanks heaps for your advice!
Dude don't piss about. Get the axis and be done with it. No experience with the CF but me and 10 others I know of very happy with axis... and that's just in my very small circle of friends.
I've heard that the Axis is good but it's 300 bucks more expensive which is a lot of money for an 18 year old :D so unless the CF is a lot worse I'd rather save the money.
I'm with eppo on this one. The crazy fly looks good, nice carbon mast but there is no upgrade to different wings and you will probably out grow it. Your going to want a longer mast at some point and larger wings are easier to learn on/ progress with.

ah youth is wasted on the young... Get the CF then, go on and save yourself 300. Been there done that before...
300 is only one big night on the prowl!!
Although all those that have lived a bit on this planet know it will cost you a whole lot more than 300 in the end, especially when there is fck all of a market for CF foils here.
Can't say regarding CF but everyone, I mean everyone who has compared the axis stuff to the other foils they have ridden has preferred the axis wings. But of course I don't know everyone nor do I have that many friends...
Don't mean to be offensive, sincerely trying to help by the way.
I reckon would go with the CF ,full carbon and $300 cheaper no brainer. Also does it look like the foil is made by Moses for CF ,and if so their wings may fit.
Good luck.
I am selling a zeeko spitfire with 2 wing sets, good to get started on the bigger wings and you can use the smaller wings for boosting and carving hard once you are getting good!
Shameless plug I know!! but it is going for a bargain price

If made by Moses (which seems to be the case), it makes it a much better option than the both the Axis or F-one.
if ur only learning and money is a high priority I can not recommend the gong allvator m enough.. very skilled riders in Germany are seriously impressed my build quality, service and entry level performance
theres a thread on the sup forum where most questions are answered but to sum up apparently u save tax and have about 100 bucks in shipping cost which should work out to be about 700 bucks
it will be heavy and no carbon so no jumping and racing but perfect for learning and freestyle move as well as adaptable for wave surfing and pumping as an additional huge surf wing is only 300 more
Looking at the CF it looks a lot like the moses rebranded just like the SS ghost whisperer.
So there will be other wings & stabs around.
But if your just learning you dont need the full carbon setup.

Nah. Axis mast is stiffer, apparently. And the whole setup is tough as. You get what you pay for.

It's like $750 on sale for the CF Shorty, which makes it very cheap indeed.

Haha, I hope you're not serious? Comparing a Moses to an Axis is like comparing a Mercedes to a Fiat...
Assuming you are right saying that the Axis is "stiffer" but the Moses is already stiff enough (it clearly is), what does that extra stiffness give you on a beginner freeride foil? Is that stiffness achieved by increasing the thickness of the mast section which in turns compromise speed?
Yet to hear a seasoned foilers choosing an Axis alloy over a Moses. Not that the Axis is not good but it is clearly no match to a well built carbon fibre.
Do yourself a favor, go and try one.
CF is very cheap BUT wing area is like 600 so too small using just for learning and not the best after learning. Its not full carbon as fuse is aluminium ..mast is short enough for learning but I'd prefer a 100cm carbon mast if I go carbon since you can use this for jumping later ...so its a matter of figuring out if this is just for learning or using later. Another option is NP glide, advantage is its cheaper and you get cheap wings and masts. You will have the same maintenance with these two foils or Axis...for example Moses fuse is aluminium and Moses recommend disassembly after use and for me doesn't make sense if I pay $2000
If I were you I'll check out the NP glide first, with short mast it should weight 8lbs, one of the biggest benefits of NP or Axis is you have good second hand market so more options...
I really appreciate all your help @eppo and all the other guys . I'll have a look at the Neilpryde and Gong foils as well! This discipline is so confusing already haha

Not heard of a broken Axis foil... have heard of Moses breaking.
I'll try one, there's a guy at my local with a big wing Moses.
I've no issue lending him mine, I can't break it. Heck, it's hard to scratch it.

Glide is popular for free ride crowd too, don't know about price.

On second thoughts, pictures of a bent Glide mast and plate just showed up in my feed.
Still think Slingshot is a good foil to start with, despite the weight. The spares are cheap.

Yep. I'm not alone either: kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=2401619&p=1039806&hilit=Moses+broken#p1039806
Just looked up your link, would hardly say thats evidence of Moses breaking.
I have been the Aus importer for 3.5 years and not had 1 single breakage across all areas of use. I also do foil and board repairs and have seen a lot of breakages from many popular brands.
Also if it were to break within reason I am instructed to replace the broken part. Not had to yet

That's good
Some isn't all. That link is to support my statement about what I've heard. Cos some people think I'm making it up
Thanks to the OP for this thread. I think I've just found my next foil. A re-branded Moses foil $300 cheaper than an Axis!! Where are you finding the prices for the CF foils? An Axis was high on my list but the CF foil, if it's as good as it looks on their website, would be hard to ignore. Sounds too good to be true.

The dude is just trying to promote the Chinese made gear from his fellow countryman.
Everybody know that the future of foiling is in Chinese alloy foils .
I mailed Crazyfly and they confirmed that all parts between Crazyfly and Moses from 2018 and newer are interchangeable.

Bingo. That's great. The "Shorty" foil appears to be the Moses 590 wing with probably a 71cm Fluente mast. That would be a nice combo for a beginner and if you can buy a 91cm mast down the track, you'll be set for the long term. Probably not as good for learning as other options but still very do-able. The Moses 590 has good lift and a very smooth, stable ride. It's a great freeride wing according to various reviews online.
91 cm Moses mast cost over $1200 anf most people will want one eventually if 70cm is all you have. For this reason I extended my learning curve and went with 91cm to start with.
I wouldn't go for any mast below 90cm if paying top price but 50% discount maybe...regarding interchangeability with CF and Mosses one factor you should consider is big wings like 633 or 683s not compatible with CF fuse, same within the Moses line..if you know what your riding style and conditions it helps a lot ...for beginners if you want to buy Moses, I'd recommend 683s wing compared to more popular 633 ..so at what price point a Moses setup makes sense ...to me if I'm paying anything over $1500 i'd go Moses (around $2000 for Onda kite with 91 mast)..Moses is over rated but currently they have the most wings and best resale value

Is your reasoning behind 683S over 633 based on size of wing or . . . ?

Yeah, you got me. I'm so about trying to screw up the future of foiling.
Or are you saying I shouldn't support my local business?
Where are you finding the prices for the CF foils?
Just looked on the website's shop. Probably US$ but exchange rate isn't terrible.
Of course, you really should be supporting your local store, especially if you need parts support...

Oh I will be supporting my local store as they sell Moses so any extra wings / 633 fuselage etc that I need, I get from them. And saving $500 isn't insignificant. Win win.
