Thumbs Up

There is a little bit of info floating around on how guys prep their masts and foils for racing to give more stability and therefore top speeds and turning ability.

The theme is to use a filler first , then paint ( epoxy primer ) so the carbon / glass is not being sanded, then the sanding occurs on the primer leaving the original carbon/epoxy largely intact.

What are guys using for filling / painting ?

Does it make a difference which way you sand ( with the water flow or 90 degrees off it )

Does it make a difference which grit you use on the foil top/ bottom and front / back surfaces - given the bottom has higher pressure than the top?
I've heard 800 grit used for leading edge, and 400 grit rear edge
EDIT: also heard Banga foils recommending 1000 gritt leading up to 400 rear to stop cavitation travelling up the mast - I assume you would sand front to back for this ?

Found a nice blog on the subject with some interesting pics, don't really understand the 40 degree sanding.... wouldn't that promote air to be sucked down the mast on the sanding channels?

This video has them using a sandable glazing compound for the pinholes - which looks quick and easy.
