Hi, anyone out there have a Switch E6 in 5m size (one strut) & could offer an opinion on this kite for foiling please.
Also interested in this kites weight ?
Mmmmm, not much info around about this kite, got an approx weight from Switch - 1.7kg.
I'm a newbie foiler & my other/only kite is an 8m Drifter, I have had only about 5 foil sessions so far & have been overpowered everytime (when up on the foil) - wind was about 18-30 knots.
@ 73kg what wind range could be expected - foiling with a 5m kite please ?
I have a 4.8m strutless and in my 1 season experience should be ok subject to your kite skills.
At 30kn even smaller would be better.
Others may wish to advise their experience on the Switch kite.
Don't know the switch at all but an average 3 strut 5m kite for 73kg I'd say 16-24knots.
I'm 80kg and ride my Cloud 3.5 from 18-28. Don't be afraid to go small.
Hi Djdojo, what size cloud D would you recommend for 12-16 knots on a big surf wing. Was thinking the 8
I have Clouds - 4.8, 6.2, 8 & 10.4 Ds and I am 75kg
10.4m -7/ 8 kn to 12 kn 32m race lines can go higher but sweet spot.
8m 10kn to 16kn same lines
6.2m 13kn to 18kn
4.8m 16kn to 24kn Apx as so far only done to about 20kn wind.
True range would be a little more but for me this is the sweet spot.
While range seems narrow I try for smallest kite for the session.
I think others would push the kites for a bigger range.
Hi Airsail, I haven't ridden the Ds yet, but follow much of the chatter of those who have. Power preferences vary quite a bit but I'd say 6.2. 8 if you like lots of power, possibly 4.8 if you're smooth on the foil.
Thanks guys, sounds like the 6.2 is the size. Been playing around modifying elements 1's to single strut and strutless and the advantages for foiling are clear. The elements aren't the best to start with as they are a bit overbuilt but they have been a good proving ground.
Without the struts they spin like a cloud and will relaunch ok as long as they are pumped up really hard.
Think it is time to buy a real one.
Tim
This may help as a guide - from Cloud website.
Not the D version however apparently bottom end is same or slightly better with much improved top end
I had a 12m C2 a few years back & couldn't relaunch it (even in knee deep water), I wasn't foiling back then. How is the D_0 for relaunch, when you get water over the canopy ?
I'm thinking to get something with at least one strut to learn to foil on, could get a D_1 but they are out of my price range atm.
Will treat myself to a quiver of Clouds one day

The D's are better for re-launch than C2's.
And D1's re-launch better the D0's.
But there is still a bit of trick to re-launching the 13.4 and 10.4 after the canopy is covered.
The 8's and below have no dramas.

Sounds to me like I should start saving for a D1

Warwick has a D1 and loves it.
Not much difference is weight between his 8 D1 and my 8 D0.
But the D1 launches more easily than the D0 off the water.
