Just looking for opinions on people's favourite board for overpowered airs?
In particular, 45+knots cross onshore with 4-8foot waves on a 7sqm.

I believe there are a few schools of thought on this:
1. King of the air guys are often on stiff high rocker wakestyle boards with boots. This relies on finding a smooth patch of water for takeoff, but probably provides the most amount of loading if you can get it right.
2. Shinn monk style boards with flex tips which allow excellent edge holding regardless of the water surface available for launch
3. Riding a smaller board e.g. 132-135cm, but combine with a kite with massive lofting lift (like an ozone edge or a foil)

Also, I have found that smaller fins are much nicer for uncontrolled landings, and the benefit outweighs the bigger fins on takeoff benefit. I also find that the smaller fins allow faster acceleration which helps to opportunistically hit a wave face or flat piece of water for stratospheric crunk airs.

I would put the Cabrinha Tronic in the mix, it's pretty much designed for what you want to do. The boards Ive ridden with deeper concaves seem to release off the water easier giving more boost and softer landings.

Dont know much about the small fins for uncontrolled landings.????

The old school FLX's 132 - 135's were always pretty boosty

You want a high rocker board that takes power out of the kite....they land the softest too.
This automatically gives you much more line tension before you even decide to send it.... it helps to give much more reactive pull when you tear the kite back fast...at this point it feels the same tension as if you pulled the bar in....but thats next....the part where you actually get torn straight up off the water with speed...at this point you are with the elements now.
There are many different tecniques to acheive good air.
Edging skills far out weight small fin variations.
Ozone edge and shinn bronq is a good start....but small edge.
The wind on the east coast of Australia is not real great for honing your boosting skills though.

Imho it's a 50/50 kite and board combo for getting respectable height, if flying an edge you need a board that'll handle the power to make the most, more rocker and decent outline, able to hold a very powered edge , if it's fast on the go that's a bonus also a kite that'll keep pulling when you edge hard and not make you flatten out for it to recover, for me I always found a 135 monk and 7 edge was a great mix, now prefer my 8 enduro and bronq 135, I was pretty impressed with a North TS for loading up but very ordinary in general in our conditions,
hated some boards that I swore would be great so get on some demos if possible

Hopefully some steady frontal systems on the horizon soon

Hummmmm I'd question that,
best boards I've had for load n edge have had none, also felt no real difference when trying them back to back, saying that my new bronq has them,

My carbon Nobile NHP has a decent rocker and is pretty stiff. Assymetric toeside rail allows you to land on your toes if you come in at a weird angle, especially after a loop. Worth looking into. Has quad channels to but they aren't over done.

oh and your legs will break before the edge gives up in this board. Really tactile, obvious grip through the edge.

Well, it would depend on how smooth the run up and kicker is and also how choppy and rough the landing is

So in the perfect runup, kicker and landing you want a stiff, low rocker, board of smaller size with square tips. That will hold the most power and will go the fastest and release for an insane boost. Oh big fins and channels.

The more roughness of water surface is the more your perfect flatwater booster will suffer. It wont be able to retain speed and edge bashing and bouncing through chop, Then you will need to add rocker, rounder corners and flexible tips to soak up some of the roughness.

The more rocker, roundness and flex you add the less you can boost..........

Oh the dilema. Then once you have boosted you need to land, A awesome little booster can be a **** lander if its too small and lacks nose rocker..... Theres nothing worse than boosting to the moon like a legend then catch the nose like a lepper on and ragdoll the landing,

All true. That's why I mentioned my NHP. The rocker is quite pronounced and yet that mitigates somewhat the stiffness of the board. Hence it's okay through chop. The very straight heel side rail and the 50mm fins provide incredible grip. This is also Inlcudes a very square tip on the heel side tip but then turns inwards on the toeside Rail to not catch when coming in hot or wanting to slash a wave. It isn't wind hungry either but cannot compete against a flat rocketed square tip board for early planning.

Best compromise I've come across anyway.

2007 airush xpact 132 x 40 ftw. $50 at a garage sale. missing a fin and bet I can out-boost a few of you on your $1k+ boards.

When you have the right kicker or very smooth water combined with lots of wind, like save the whales said, all you need to go huge is ball$.

Heaps of factors are at play here, channels, tip defection, rebound and stiffness, fin placement, size and angle, cross torsional stringers just to name a few. There was huge amounts of RnD in this space 2007 to 2013ish.

Weight is also a big factor. The stiff board that works awesome and launches a 80kg guy will feel like wet cardboard under a 115kg guy.... if it's the same model board it won't necessarily get stiffer in bigger sizes either

Just remember you can have all the gear but no idea about technique.... It's not the gear that's the problem It's you.....

What board aspects maximise rooster tail? Is it just high rocker or does a lack of channels and stuff also help to increase rooster tail?

I think it's pretty sad seeing guys riding super powered with no rooster tail these days, it's kind of like driving a high powered car that doesn't roar and rumble.

My thoughts on rooster tails wishy , Both the pics below are with boards of medium rocker.

^^^ Cardboard Freeride 131 x 41 quad concave . The quad gives the ability to spray out a couple of big chunks of spray. You actually see two separate rooster tails coming off the board that combine to one.

^^^ Cardboard Freeride 128 x 39 dual concave . The spray that this board gives off is thinner than the quad .

That is sick Gesper, looks like you are about to hit warp speed on that flat water!

When Augusta used to have a 2km flat run I remember averaging 200-300km/h with a rooster tail like that.
