I had my pump stop pumping yesterday, and when I pulled it apart, it looks like one cap thing has come out, and the seal that looks like it should be attached to it was just floating around.
Can you get these parts? Can you get a diagram of what a kite pump should look like?
Is it worth repairing these or do I throw it away and buy a new one?
This happens regularly with older style pumps if you like your kite at a firm pressure. I re-seated mine a while back and put two 5mm bolts with nuts and washers through the thin section of the plunger either side of the valve/seal. the holes need to be a firm fit for the bolts and you need to balance the tension side to side and top to bottom to get a symmetrical clamping force from the washers onto the edges of the circular bit of plastic, but mine worked on first attempt and has worked for many sessions since.

Thank you, that's the sort of thing I was after. As you may have guessed, I do like to inflate my kites at a decent pressure, and its during this that it broke. It still wasn't inflated enough for my liking, but still okay.
I suspect that a seal has also ejected itself from one of those 'caps' that you are holding down. One was floating around with the cap itself and the other cap has no seal.
Thank you.
If the mechanics of a pump confuse you,. maybe you shouldn't be kiting.
Yeah. If you can't figure out how a car works, you shouldn't be driving either. Get off the road MF!
I tried to fix my pump. One of the seals in the oneway valve had gone, probably blown into the kite. I refitted the other that was loose and it worked but only in one direction.
I have been looking everywhere for something that could replace the seal and finally got lucky with a 25mm diameter patch for a bike tube. Using some hole punches from Bunnings, I put a 3mm hole in the middle and it works perfectly. Maybe even better than the original. I wonder how it will hold up.
