Hi,

I am looking at taking a 2-3 year work contract in Port Moresby. Yes I know the security issues and have been thru there a couple of times on surf trips. There is not much surf near POM but I had heard of a small kiting scene in POM itself. Does anyone know more detail on that? I am a beginner but if I go I will take some time off for more lessons here to advance before going.

Thanks

Yeah there is a few keen crew up there, I think they might be on the Facebook if you're into that new fangled stuff.

I recall the manager of the holiday inn is one of the local crew if you want a random local contact to start with... though that was a few years ago...

yeah you will find a bunch of keen kiters here. the facebook group is there (search for port moresby kiteboarding) but the most active is the whats app group :)plenty of options for kiting especially if you are relatively advanced (so get those lessons and be a confident with your basic skillset). flat water and surf sites are easily accessed from the city. and plenty more within an hours dive. it is possible to kite all year round but most of the kiting is may -nov when the trade winds are blowing. its unlikely you will need more then a 12m. 10m and smaller is recomended the main beach right in the middle of the city is about to finish its face lift and it looks good for kiters. so you should be able to walk out of the office and get your kite on during a lunch break :)

oh and if you can get your self a little dingy there is plenty of good surf too. just have to get your self to the outer reef or out to hula.
