To clarify this is not a troll thread but a legit question.

Is Leo Australias best wave kiter right now?

Is he the best in the world right now?

I was just watching the below videos and blown away by his talent. Having said that no one will give him credit cuz he can be a tool. But all seriousness is he the best right now?
I know Airton and friends are doing the same/ better technical stuff, and there a heap of guys charging solid waves but Leo is the only guy who is the whole package bar Keahi. He charges solid waves, get sick barrels and still do the flicky technical stuff.

But more than likely because of his attitude he will probably never have the chance to prove this and therefore are we as a sport not seeing the best because we judge the sport on appearance and attitude rather than what a guy can do in the water.

Just thought I would through the question out there.

(oh and Leoloro, 2pac, zebra.... please don't reply and start an argument on judges etc, let just listen to the public)

If I owned/ managed a kite brand, I wouldn't want anything to do with him!

Aggreed but what I'm asking though, besides his attitude, is he the best in Aus right now? Has anyone else got any footage of someone doing better?

Why not? 99% of team riders are generally unknowns and i'm assuming bring very little ROI to the brands yet here we are talking about Leo's kiting. Again and again.

Anyone running a serious kite event should be paying Leo to attend, he continues to get people talking when the majority of kite events are very low key.

Name 2 current Australian tennis players??
Those 2 are always getting fined for being loud and controversial but they are selling seats and probably not so bad in real life.

Most of his videos are of him doing freestyle tricks on a surfboard in small waves What category of world championships does that fall into?

I remember seeing him compete in the first Kitejam 2012 on the Goldy,
he was doing back 720 strapless airs from memory....

He came third, I don't recall seeing anyone else doing similar tricks....

he just needs to gain a bit of confidence and self belief

BTW, it was me that launched ur kite for u Leo....

De nada

I always thought it was a bit silly to look at a lifestyle sport like kitesurfing or skateboarding as a competitive sport and title a "best", as if you can win in the way federor beats nadal.

So, is it impressive? yeah! It's great to see people push the limits. Does it matter? Much rather share the stoke and good times at the beach. You can have both, but I'd be lying if I haven't seen the occasional diva at the beach.

Anyone who's done competitive sport knows how important practice, controlled conditions ect... are for getting good at a sport. The cost is, on the way to improving their skills you get divas at your local (won't wait in the line up like others, short tacks, no patience with beginners sharing the public space) so they can't land their silly little trick. All of this at the price of your ordinary joe just getting out after a days work to have a laugh or two with some mate.

Is he the best? don't care... is it impressive? Yeah! Hopefully he's a decent guy at his local too.

Sorry bit of an off topic rant...

Yeah, I didn't see him getting any barrels either, just overpowered floats.

Compare that video Mick and then the first Instagram video posted of Leo and they are leagues apart.

From a surfer point of view, Leo is position correctly, deep in the pocket and maintains a very vertical attack of the lip, landing out on the flats. Great from a surfing point of view but even harder with a kite dragging you out of position. Credit where credit is due.

WHAT, ALL I can say is that video was put as depicting better wave kiting. That video to me showed a strapped rider riding a wall of a wave.

If he is a better kiter the video used wasn't the right one to use. All I am saying
