Thumbs Up

Hi all

Im doing some bar mods to a cabrinha and ozone bar. Both are 2017.

Id like to shorten the cabrinha lines from 22m to 20m. They have the weird 8m + 14m centre lines. Is the point of that to create a knot 8m up the line so that when you pop your safety the bar stops? This is important to know because im getting some aftermarket lines made up and i need to know whether to immulate the join.

Also, maybe my existing lines are stretched / shrunk but I doubt it as the bar is currently tuned. After disconnecting the lines from the bar and running them out, it seems the centre lines are 20cm longer than the steering lines. Does this sound right?

With the ozone bar. The steering line sleeves have a label printed " -5cm " on them yet the sleeves appear much longer than the centre line sleeves. What's that all about?

Cheers

I recently bought a Cabrinha bar and asked about the 8m lower section. I was told that is where all the wear happens when twisting the lines due to rotations. The intention is that you can cheaply replace the 8m section instead of buying a full set of lines. A quick search shows them selling for $30 so that supports the idea.

It's conventional wisdom that lightly loaded lines will shrink. It doesn't really matter. Tuning lines is a normal part of kiting. Just use the knots and pigtails provided. You want all lines to be the same length with the bar pulled in and the trimmer released.

No idea why Ozone would put a label with -5cm on it.

Ozone kites are tuned to fly 5cm shorter on the rear. Tune the lines to be even but use the 2ed knot down for attaching. An ozone kite will fly ok on even line length but they prefer that slightly tighter rear line. Thats my understanding anyway

Thanks Adam. Gorgo, my cabrinha bar is tuned i.e. all four lines are the same length at the kite howeber when detached from the bar there is a 20cm difference which probably means the connection points at the bar ends and the chickenrope / depower swivel thing are different lengths when manufactured.

Wow never knew that, I sold a guy an ozone bar awhile back and he asked why they were different lengths. Guess that's why, I thought the lines just stretched.

Im no kite designer, but there ia a chance that other kites operate on the same principle but the difference is made up in the pigtails attached to the kite. Different strokes for different folks right?
