Reo V5

I have had three of my v5's for two seasons with no signs of wear. My 8 is my most used kite and it is still in perfect shape. I do take the time to fold it properly after every session. I never rinse the kite or brush the sand off with a brush, I just shake it free. I have one v4 left in my quiver, a 6 meter which I use for foiling and downwind surfing, but that too is in immaculate shape. Best if you put up a photo to see the wear you are talking about.

had a similar thing on a moto ... presume its additional wear or stress on fabric due to the carbon struts

haven't had the same problem with my drifters, but then I don't hold onto them for years

The minor fracturing of the coating on the D2 cloth that you can see is nothing to be concerned about, D2 cloth and all the versions of Teijin cloth that have multi strand rip stop, do this. The fibres or threads are coated first, then the thread is woven into cloth and then that cloth is coated in resin again, but the threads are individually coated and this is what made D2 and D3 cloth superior to ordinary single coated cloths.

Ozone pioneered the use of soft eva foam battens to reduce flutter, and make the kite more durable and user friendly. Hard carbon or fibreglass battens don't work any better at reducing flutter but they do keep the repair guys busy because they break easily and frequently but also make it a hassle to fold the kite and tend to make the cloth around them weaker because they are so hard compared to the cloth they are supposed to protect. Hard battens are also very heavy.

Thanks Steve. My previous kites (V1 Enduros) had zero sign of this after 30-40 sessions.
are you saying that this happens quicker on the REO because of switching off the power and it flutters whilst drifting?
I would have thought it would take a lot of hours use for this type of thing to occur.

I had a look two days ago at my most used Reo, the 8 meter. I could barely notice the wear you are talking about, but it shows if I look hard enough. I have absolutely hammered this kite as far as riding goes, (not saying crashing it and having it hit hard sand, more like hard riding, tons of looping and jumping, and certainly with exactly what Steve mentioned as far as a little fluttering across the wind window) and I don't really think that wear at the trailing edge is an issue. V1 Enduro's had a lot more flutter than the v2, but the v5 Reo does flutter a bit in transition if you aren't smooth enough in your turn, and especially more so in the higher wind range for the size of the kite. Seriously I would not be worried, and every Reo I have sold on has lived another long life with the next owner.
