G'day everyone, has anybody else had this happen to their board? Does anybody know what caused this? The only unusual thing ive done is kite in dubai last year in like 50degrees so possibly super salty water cristalysing within the core, if that's as thing. The pictures aren't that good but if you look carefully the top layer of carbon is lifting off around the footpad slots. Thanks for any advice im fixing this board as it needs to last till xmas 2020 when my budget catches up for a new one.

I spent quite a bit of time talking to Mark Shinn, about why there had been a spate of delaminated boards not just for Shinn but across a range of manufacturers.
There had been an issue where the bottom sheet had come off the large printer and then sits in a rack drying, it only needs about 60 minutes to cure.
Apparently in the Nobile factory they had been training a new worker who was putting them at the top and not the bottom of the drying rack, The next worker in the production cycle was taking the sheet from the top, when the bottom printed sheet was attached to the board this meant that the gel coat was sticking to the non cured ink and not the board. so a few rides in the water and the force of the water on the edge was lifting the sheet off.
As he explained it a classic example of a manufacturing warranty because of a small human error. All the shinn boards that were affected by this are replaced under the 2 year no quibble warranty.
The other issue that has seen a few Shinn boards replaced with cracking gel coats was and issue with a batch contaminated chemicals added to hopper containing gel coat, which meant that when flexed the boards gel coat shows crazing. Not any structural damage, purely cosmetic but again they were replaced under warranty. Again a human error as some one added out od date chemicals to the top up hopper

Thanks psycho joe- maybe its just that: a manufacturing fault, I tend to always think its something ive done first, anyway its too old for a warranty claim. Next question: does anybody know a website that sells small amounts of epoxy resin/hardner and glass/carbon, i know theres no shops where i live as i had the same problem some years ago when i tried to build a board (anything that came in less than 5kg quantities was crap quality).
Aswell i did a quick bit a internetting, aparently its possible to thin araldite with metho, so heres a possible fix, use thinned araldite on rip off expensive bunnings woven roving cloth instead of resin? Possible a mix of the above and talcum powder as a filler for paste.
Sorry but this is the typical North quality!
agree, have met a few guys who had delam on new North Boards.

No no don't use an adhesive resin and don't thin its not easy to get a good result - and Araldite is not designed fro continuous immersion anyway
Get onto Boatcraft Pacific in Qld for their sample pack of epoxy they can post to you.
Drop into a surfboard manufacturer they will have tons of offcuts of glass - I make one board and have enough offcuts for months of repair work.
Excellent direction mark I've just placed my order thank you!! Thanks too to the dudes who messaged me with advice its very much appreciated.

Exactly what I was trying to remember. ... Boatcraft sampler. I also bought an epoxy pigment kit from a craft store, or you can just use spraypaint cans for final touch up.
^^^ I doubt that is the issue, epoxy lasts very well in sunlight, it just yellows. It would take many years of exposure to make it fail (so in a board scenario it would be decades), and this is painted so the epoxy underneath gets zero UV exposure.
At Howe, no mate Ive been looking after this board pretty good (it gets rinsed off and stored inside etc). The weird thing is the raised parts are rock hard and under the footpad area so less sunlit area. Ill post some picks when i grind it back maybe that will give us some more clues. Thanks again for everyones advice.
Hey now, hey now na now sing this delamination to me!
Didn't pick you for a SoM fan
