I never tried boots on kite before today, and actually i liked a lot. I can pop decently with flat water and when i kite with my right foot forward. Opposite, on big choppy/wavy water, and with the left foot forward, i am not able to pop at this time.
Actually i dont freestyle or unhook, i simply ride and jump as big as i can, backrolls and frontrolls, goofy, some waves and little things.

I'm thinking to switch to kite with boots even if i am not a freestyler, just because i like the way boots make more direct control of the board, but i feel like in some spot they can be little dangerous...am i wrong?
Did somebody esperienced something like that? maybe a situation when you wanna bee totally free but you are attached to the board? like in big waves + losing controls of the kite, or other situations?

On the other side i felt lot more protect my ankles and feert, but this is pretty obvious

You will probably find it disappears if you stop wearing them.

I bought a new wake style board with boots last season, riding with no fins and loving the loose skatey feel of it. Great on flat water but a few people have advised not to kite in waves with boots: plenty "hold downs" when you catch an edge on a wave and the board drags you under.

I'm pretty sure they don't want you to kite in waves because you look like the type of person who cuts in front of the queue as you have no idea of the rotation

Waves are no problem. Look at the old footage of people like Aaron hadlow and Tom Court and you'll see them doing freestyle in the waves using the waves as kickers to launch from. Boots just make getting a strong heelside edge easier as you can push down with your calf and not just your heels. This is the reason why female riders often like to get into boots as it compensates for reduced strength.

I found that they are better in chop for the same reason. You get a better edge from boots more easily so they cut through the chop better without flicking your weight off balance so it feels smoother.

Just a shame my local spot is predominantly onshore wind so I rarely use them

Yep, hold downs are hectic. Happened to me once and i learnt my lesson on how to avoid this.

Boots are my thing and I'll never go back to straps

How do you avoid this kemp90? I quickly learnt to bend my knees when faceplanting so the board slices through the water, that what you do?

Boots are fine in waves. In fact wake boards are better than freestyle boards because of the extra rocker.
I've been joining in with the flock on the downwinders a bit this summer and it works fine in waves. The only time it's a bit scary, is if you crash the kite in onshore winds. The waves will wash you towards the kite and over the lines. Never had an issue with it yet, but it's a concern, and yeah it's harder to swim with a board stuck to your feet.
Boots are not for everyone, but for me the advantages of boots far outweigh the disadvantages

thanks for your feedback guys!

is there a big difference between boots models outhere?

I'd like a model that let me quit them pretty easily if i need to. And possibly without sacrifing other aspect

So what happened to me was. Onshore wind and I didn't get over the top of the lip when it broke and it pulled me under, had to undo my boots underwater haha.

yes bend you knees when when you crash to avoid a front edge

Slightly off topic but how much would you ideally size up a board for riding with boots?

So I'm 76 kg and riding a 136 board with straps, would I go up to a 138 or 140 or more with boots ? Whats the general rule of thumb? Does it depend on the boards rocker?

At 62kg, I generally ride a Cab Ace 135x40 with straps and a CF Addict 136x41 with boots but find the CF has so much more rocker it generally needs 2 or 3 knots more to stay upwind, even though it's a bigger board.
Size depends on rocker and what you're after:
In my opinion, if you just wanted to swap between boots and straps in the same conditions, just swap the bindings and keep using the same board. If you want to add an extra wind range to your favourite kite, get a more rockered board one size up (in your case, the 138) from what you are riding now.

My experience look at the boards over all weight makes a big difference to going up wind and swing weight during tricks.
Tona pop with hyperlites weights a metric ton.
Liquid force Echo and the LFKs boots is propably the lightest setup ive come across .

Tona pop goes upwind well in 40knots on a 10sqm if you put big fins on it.

My board is already very much rockered (f one acid). I just thinking i could enjoy more using bots instead of straps.
But i can read everywhere talking about boots, that if you dont unhookd than is better stay with straps
