Hi everyone

Can anyone in the Coffs area give advice on getting started with Kite Surfing? I windsurfed for quite a few years before selling up and having a break. I am now keen to get back on the water and convert to the kites. I'm having trouble finding an instructor in the local area. Apparently there is an instructor by the name of Karen but cannot find any details.

Is Newcastle or Gold Coast the nearest option?

Any help appreciated.

Steve

Hey mate, I've been kiting in Coffs for the last three years and don't know of any qualified instructors here. There is a small kiting fraternity in Coffs, Woolgoolga and Sawtell and it can be pretty decent at this time of year with the NE seabreezes kicking in however I'd suggest that Newcastle or GC would be better options for learning purposes. There are plenty of schools/instructors at those other locations.

Conditions here are open-ocean in choppy waves with strong side-shore currents and shore-breaks, with no real flat-water spots, so it's tough for beginners and discouraging until you master the basics....pretty unsafe too in my experience here. You really need to be a strong beginner/intermediate to get the most out of Coffs.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the tips guys. Luke I have some time off in the new year. If getting down there is a possibility I will definitely follow up.
