I've just moved to the Northern rivers NSW. Has anyone got any tips on flat water spots. I need to hone my skills and I'm not ready for the surf.
I was thinking about the Gold Coast but I'd prefer to stay south of the boarder.
Cheers

Not much in the way of flat water up our way. Richmond River/North Crk in Ballina. Byron can be quite small waves and there is a channel all the way along 7 mile beach where you can stay on the inside and not go out the back if the waves are too big for you at the moment.
There are plenty of TT riders around and all the locals are a friendly bunch. The more you ride in waves the less scary they are, but there are some days it gets pretty wild, generally in winter though.

Hi KP,

"And there is a channel all the way along 7 mile beach where you can stay on the inside and not go out the back if the waves are too big for you at the moment"

Do you mean Lennox head nearby the Ti Tree Lake? I am also a beginner and looking for a place with shallow water.

Cheers Robert

Dude. If you're looking for shallow water I seriously recommend more lessons from a quality instructor this time.
