Anyone tried the 2017 12m Drifter? Any comparisons to 2016 11&13 sizes.
Windranges? Turning speeds
Have a 8m 2016. Great kite from 14 to 30 knots.
Looking for larger size for waves and light winds.
weight: 80kg
board: 5'6 vanguard

Hi Hairybear01!
did you get any answer to this question? I wonder the same!
how is the cabrinha drifter 2017 12m performing vs the 11m (2016 or 2017) in terms of wind range especially on the low end?
People hooked on the drifter report that low end and power is not strong and would rather go one size up.
did you end up buying a larger drifter size at the end?

Mates, anyone riding this drifter 2017 12m can comment?

cheers!

I think Drifters are really underrated kites, I struggled to find many decent reviews. At the end of the day, only way is to demo for yourself.
I did & bought a 2018 8m, huge wind range & drift is sublime.

Fair play. It wouldn't be the first time I've mixed up drifters and reos. Was intending to post Keahi vids but found Ryan Coote instead.

Yeah i have a 12m 2017 drifter, which I use for lighter winds and seems to go well but I could probably get the same power with a 10/11m switchblade. Turning speed not bad for a 12m and I find I tend to use a lot more of the wind window and the drift gives time to sort yourself out before powering up again.

The newer drifters 2016 onwards allow you to set the bridle on offshore setting for more grunt (at the expense of less drift). This makes them noticeably better and I think they fly a bit more forward so you get better upwind. So you have a more versatile kite. Not sure there is much difference betwen 16/17 or even 18 models?

I used to ride swithblades mostly as I couldn't stand the lack of grunt in the drifters (had an old 11m), but now that's all I have. 7, 9, 12m.

Not a lot of tech improvements I can see from that ad other than materials. I noticed from seeing one myself is that there are carbon rods between struts presumaly to stabilise trailing edge canopy area (like the FX had in its earlier models).

But if it takes me to exotic wave locations and make me kite like Keahi I'll buy it!!

I haven't flown any of the previous Drifters, so can't offer an opinion - I'm only going from the promo material available to me & demoing the 2018 8m. Also demoed the 2018 8m Drifter & BWS AE2 8m back to back & bought the Drifter.
Apologies to OP, for deviating this thread.
