We're coming up to Cairns to visit the rellos in September, staying at Holloways Beach and Yorkeys Knob. What sort of boards work best for those areas?

The videos I can see look like tidal beaches with lots of flat water.

My preferred riding is my foil, followed by a surfboard in waves. If there's only shallow, flat water on offer I can drag out the TT's.

Lots of people on surfboards and a lot on twin tips. What ever you prefer but best bring a light wind board (so foil?). So far a bit of a poor start to the season. I was stuck on the beach yesterday but guys with 12m and above or a good light wind board were able to get out. Foil will work best at Yorkey's above mid tide - if it's very low a sand bank shows up but you'll spot it.

Flat water? Not really. Mostly just mush. As much as you can handle. You can get some flat water, tide dependent at the river mouth that separates Yorkey's and Holloways but then it can be too shallow and I get to scared to try anything in fear of breaking my legs.
