Hey guys/gals,Having a break from work for a few weeks and thought i might as well head north to where its warmer and try and get some kiting in, thinking ive never been above airlie beach so was thinking about spending over the 10days travelling between airlie and cairns and checking out the sites and beaches.Any recommendations on where to kite and what the wind has been like lately? any one keen to join and share costs please let me know!Cheers, Joel
wind feels really strong and you want to whip your 9m out until you actually realize that it has essentially 0 power.
I lived in Airlie several years ago pre kite boarding days very pretty place & chilled nite life, but my understanding no wind you need to head up to Bowen or Townsville for enough wind
Bowen is the spot to kite rather than Airlie. That time of year we are at the Don river. Usually pretty good for arvo breezes. 12mt is my most used size at 85kg. Winds are 15-20kts most of the time. Go to the Blowen Bowen Facebook and post a message for more info. Hope the wind is good and catch you out there. August was pretty average which was unusual but this month has started off really well.
Sorry to say but the forecast has gone to the dogs. We have had 5 days straight of really good winds. Sunday and Monday at 22-25kts but after that it has gone.
thanks for the replies ladslooks like the trips moved a couple weeks, and so would probably be heading up the 2nd october now for 10days, hope the wind comes back for us all!
Fly in to rocky, hit up Kemp
Mackay has great flat water at town beach
Bowen as Mex said
Alva beach near Ayr
Current plan is, fly into Hamilton island, check it outboat to airlie, then make way up to cairns over 10 days staying at hostels etc, try make the trip a bit cheaperif anyone is keen for a kite between 2-12 in that region, hit me up!
