Hey Guys and Girls,
Thinking of kiting over to Moreton Island during the winter westerlies. Was wondering if anyone has done this before and if so any feedback/tips would be much appreciated. cheers!

A few of the Northside locals have discussed it at length back in the day and the subject comes back every now and then as it would be a pretty cool experience. Some of our discussion has revolved around the following points:

- The need for a rescue boat/ski for each rider with direct comms to the rider(s).

- Westerlies are typically unpredictable in our region coming over the land. A strong Southerly may be a better bet.

- It would be highly likely there would be strong shifts in wind direction closer to the island (0-30+ knots etc).

- Crossing the Brisbane Port shipping channel would need to be communicated to the port master and risk assessed.

These are just some of the risks but there's no doubt others.
A team from one if the local kite shops tried a charity event 5-6 years ago. With a less than predicted south wind I believe they ended up in Caloundra instead. I worked with one of the riders dads. Was disappointing to see all the work the team put in only to have it change at the last minute.

For me, I just think about the risks the Care Flight chopper and surface crews would take in order to save my sorry arse...... All because I thought it would be an exciting experience.....

People go missing in the bay quite often.

Not worth it imo

Was going to say the same thing Jason from Bribie in a N - NE is the way to go as its the best consistent wind, have done it on a sailboard and its remarkable easy to do as long as you don't break anything!

What an epic trip! Can imagine having a cold one on Moreton before the return leg.
Love that joint.

Jon from Kite power also did it with one of his shop employees, she was raising money for charity. They had a jet ski and the Tanglooma Flyer as a support boat too.
