Hi all, I've never bought a boat in Oz before and am looking at getting something to sail to Indonesia with (and possibly further) in June/July/August. How does the market compare later in the year? There's some decent boats at a good price at the moment but they're in NSW or QLD which would be great but for when I'm leaving but I'm in VIC until then and inspections, buying, mooring etc until then doesn't make sense now. Is there more boats on the market after the summer? Better deals? I'm keen not to be under pressure at the last minute. Thanks! Oh yeah, looking at 28ft+ and max 20K all up.

A yacht broker would probably be able to answer factually but would expect that more yachts will come on the market after Easter which is the normal end of racing season for most clubs. i don't think the time of year impacts the price - the boat's age and condition dictates that. But if you are after a specific yacht type which doesn't come up for sale as often as others due to lower build numbers, then you have to go for it when it comes up not at a particular time of the year. As you say if leave it to the last minute probably won't get the boat you are after. Good luck with the search and the trip.
