So last night I was reading the guidelines for moored vessels, never laughed so hard in my life my good leg nearly fell off lol
Vessels will have clean teak and varnished.
Exterior colours will be such as suits what the rest of the local moored fleet is wearing.
Vessels will be clean of bird droppings! ? WTF, the bane of every yachty sea gull and pelican poo with maybe a little shag dung thrown it.
Vessels paint work will be clean and not show signs of being touched up.
No rust.
Bugger me , I think I know why they are like this its because one cant have boat loads of tourists cruising around the harbour and being disgusted by the private boats out there for all to see,
my own feelings is they can push off, what can you do if a squadron of seagulls decides to drop a load on your boat, if your on your boat weekly thats fine you can scrub the poo off, geez louise damn Govt and there rules, they wont go fix the graffiti but tourists dont catch trains maybe.

So many of the maritime regulations in NSW appear to be written by some intellectually impaired halfwit that is apparently really impressed with their own importance. Unfortunately these regulations will persist until someone tests them in court.
Perhaps a gofundme opportunity??

Maybe a move yacht to a different state where such laws are non existent.

Queensland. Better weather, nice beaches, no laws on boat dressing, No life jacket needed to be worn on a recreational boat when alone. Usually a better NRL team not game two origin though ( don't know if you guys in NSW follow NRL).

I don't really have an issue with this rule as there's some pretty atrocious boats on moorings these days. What I have an issue with is when the rule is used to achieve other means.

Many years back I had a letter from RMS saying my boat was unseaworthy and I had to show just cause as to why I should keep my mooring. I motored my boat to their office to demonstrate seaworthyness and took photos of other boats in the same bay, some of which had no motor or mast at all and were totally unable to leave their mooring. I was told the growth on the bottom was "too much" and I said it was booked in to be slipped in two weeks. Nothing more was heard on the matter.

I later found out through "other channels" that the owner of the waterfront property adjacent to my mooring wanted it, and I suspect they made the complaint.

I've sometimes wondered what would happen if an immaculate varnished Metre Boat like this;

or a beautiful blue Swan like this;

was moored amongst a bunch of scruffy, rusty white boats like this;

If someone complained to the RMS that the Swan or varnished yacht's exterior colour did not match the rest of the boats moored in the area, would the RMS force owner of the Swan or Metre boat to pay someone to paint their yacht dirty white with rust marks, to match the other boats moored nearby?

What the hell do they mean by the rule anyway? Does it mean you can't moor an immaculate black boat near white ones? Does it mean you can't moor a purple boat near a green one because the colours will clash? Yes, I can understand why they don't want wrecks sitting on buoys, but a rule as stupid as this one should never have been written.

Hmmmmm....I just realised that a boat with "MARITIME" or "POLICE" written down the side in big letters would not suit many mooring areas because it does not match the usual colour scheme of moored yacht. Who should I complain to?

Chris249, that's exactly what I was thinking may have been Jethrows problem, he had a motor and a mast and everything so just didn't fit in !

Just a point, as I have now travelled up to Gladstone I've noticed that all the wrecks and rubbish boats I saw here in 2014 are gone!

In fact there are so many vacant moorings you have to wonder where the boats have all gone!

^^^ Not before time.

The yellow thing in the right of this pic was floating up and down the Burnett River for ages giving everybody a head ache.
It is now gone.

It became known as "The Yellow Peril".

Thanks for posting that Bb, that explains it then,
20mil allocated, with 274 boats on the MSQ list, that's around $70k per removal average, good coin, I noticed a large barge with a decent size crane on it near Jacobs Well, last month, that $$ could sustain that barge. Definitely noticed a huge difference myself also, in the absence of the wrecks.
cheers

It's been happening in NSW as well for awhile. MSB has a fund allocated to this. First they try to find the owners. Give notice and then lift the boats out of the water for 3 months and give the owners a chance to come forward and claim the boat {and pay the fees}. Then it's offered up for auction and if there are no takers it's cut up and carted away. The bloke who has the contract for the dismantling flogs off the good bits.
