love your work gizzie. got a new way to injure yourself on these beasts which i thought i'd share!! thought i'd head down the esplanade for a cruise late arvo last sunday, got all set up and ready to go, then went back inside to try (again) to get lazy good for nuthin son to come with, gave up and went back and just jumped on the board outside my house on my downhill street, picked up speed going down so went to moderate speed with the remote... nothing... picking up more and more speed, discovered remote was turned off.. narrow street, cars parked either side, picking up more and more speed, t intersection approaching with cars coming through!!! way too fast to bail on road, or wash off speed (which i am hopeless at anyway) parked cars blocking sides... luckily saw a open nature strip just before the end of street and steered over to it and bailed onto the grass, was sure i'd do something major (bought the e skate as hurt my achilles skating a normal board!), fortunately no real injuries except pride. lesson - always ensure your remote and board are connected - i had done initially, but when i went inside to hassle my son i took the remote with me and left board outside, they disconnected and both remote and board must have turned off (i did try turning the remote on while racing down the hill). even being so stupid (to get into that situation) it is amazing how the brain can turn on when you are in danger, i was racing down the hill picking up more speed every second, but at the same time trying to work out what was wrong, then turning on the remote, thinking about bailing and where i could bail, time does sort of slow down.... anyway i got out of jail free, just remember especially with belt drives you still go fast downhill!!!! always start off using the remote not just jumping on the board on a downhill...

When I can't get in the surf I try to find a smooth patch of tarmac to surf skate.Been surf skating for 10 months now. I am 56 and feel like an 11 year old. My youngest son (23) got me into it and I have loved the feeling of carving and gliding. He just go an electric skateboard and loves it. He even used it to commute to work the other day. I am keen to give it a go especially after seeing his stoke and Gizzie's stoke. Dools I'm glad you posted about your downhill mishap and glad you came out ok. I wouldn't have even considered that being a possibility.

I wore a helmet and pads when first learning surf skating but now ride barefoot without any protection and just don't push it too hard. I'm not interested in slides with the chance of falling.

We really need a skateboard section. I'll report back once I get a turn on the electric skateboard.

Skateboarding is not only about tricks because it's a sport that requires utmost safety. I have not ridden a board in about 40 years and I was looking for a cruiser type board, I don't plan on doing tricks or going to a skate park.

I had a similar problem on a long board in a narrow street but the wind got strong behind me and I got way to fast, tried to slide, wheels gripped and into the gutter on the road I went. Smashed the shoulder and rolled onto the foot path, luckily no one saw me. 7 weeks on and I am getting a Xray this week, doc wants to make sure I did not break it as its till a bit restricted. I keep skating and have more protective crash pants and vests to keep the old bones safer.
Just waiting to get back on the water so when I fall its into pro water.

These are good options to look at, long boards 40 inch long 10 inch wide.

day four.....dialled back to "eco" really slow mode. Getting a gentle curving and carving thing going on.
But now....."old and frightened".....need to buy body armour......a confusing number of brands out there for knee pads....elbow pads.....wrist guards?....like those padded bum and hip guard shorts also

Hey Gizzie,

Been slow though pick up on this. Thread, did you get broady armour? I got some cos I'm trying to do downhill skating with no breaks so I got crash shorts and vest LEATH brand is really good, they use it for Mountain Biking and Motor Cross. I have fallen a few times with and without protection, believe me wear the vest and shorts under your baggy clothes. The road really hurts at our age.

am wearing a ridiculous amount of safety gear....but am old. Some Evolve riders have had problems where remotes have disconnected causing injury. Here in Nz have choice of Evolve....or Evolve.....so limited new board options. Evolve Hadean new board $3700 in nz

The really good thing about electric skateboard is that it is like you are surfing a gentle point break that keeps on going almost for ever?

I used to have the skateboard by Lift Board but had the wheels torn out after a couple of months. I have then decided to replace the rollers with a new set of this brand. Its wheel kits were a perfect fit, and the entire skateboard is working well.

I have never tried skateboarding before so I was nervous about this and thought it would take me very long to learn. As a beginner, it is ideal to start with a simple remote controller.

Yes some Evolve riders moan and whinge when their hand held remote control loses the plot......and they find themselves falling off their boards......hasn't yet....hope it never....happens to me

you can learn the fundamentals of standard skateboarding before embarking on an electric skateboard adventure. Being familiar with and understanding the device's key components and functionalities is a good start.

Not falling off also a good start......Haven't lately. To me electric skateboarding is like turning and carving on a wave that never ends....plus you can dance to your music
