I gave my sail a once over tonight before putting it away for the winter and found this. The bottom cam from a Overdrive M1 was a different shape on one side. I have to think it's been worn down but can't for the life of me think how it's worn where it has and why only one side and on one cam?.

The top pic is one side of the bottom and second cam the bottom pic is the same cams but from the pther side where you can see the difference in shape

Pretty sure this is factory done (cut-down) to make putting the bottom cam on the mast easier. There was another thread on this a while ago. It's on the side you push down and works fine once in place.

This 100%, they do it to make the cams easier to put on when rigging.

With the sail on the ground and looking from the bottom, luff to the left, clew to the right, that ground bit of the cam should be on the top/facing up side.

It was probably in the right way. Severne being Aussie rig on port side the opposite to everyone else. Why ? Because that's the way of the prevailing winds in there home base of WA so it makes rigging easier without the sail trying to flip over. There boom clamps and extensions are made with the pulleys for port tack as well..

So that begs the question, if it makes it easier to rig and works perfectly why don't they make all the cams like that and why can't you buy a replacement cam like that?

Because it's cheaper to get them all made the same and have someone on a low wage quickly give them a touch up if required at the quantities we are talking about, I suspect.
