Well, Rowdy picked it a few years ago, but Karolina Winkowska has finally won it. She's the new world champion...
The Polish girl has done it!
Karolina Winkowska has been one of the underdogs of the competitive scene for a couple of years now. A few summers ago some pictures and video emerged of her riding in bindings which really pricked up the industry folk's ears. PKRA Judge Alex Lewis-Hughes even made the call that she'd be one of the top riders in the next couple of years, and now look whats happened! Taking out the two biggest names in womens kiteboarding, Gisela Pulido and Bruna Kajiya, Karolina rode hard and really showed that bindings are the way of the future for the PKRA freestlye competition.
Interestingly, Bruna Kajiya was also riding boots for the competition and so were the top three men, further adding to the claims that wakestyle riding is fast becoming mainstream in kiteboarding. Will we see kickers and sliders in the next PKRA event?
Speaking of the men though, Youri Zoon has done it again, winning his final heat against Alex Pastor and Alberto Rondina. Marc Jacobs also got a look in, winning third place in the event which was unexpected from the Switch rider. All the boys were incredibly close after the final heats, and a second final had to be ridden to split the final scores. It just goes to show how hard it is to get to the top, the big guns have been in it for a while and still continue to dominate the competitive scene. Will Youri Zoon beat Hadlows record for PKRA titles? Only time will tell.
